Old School, New School and Small School
Over the last 12 years the NCHBC has continually sought to improve the competition standards. The NCHBC staff looks for opportunities to create exciting playing experiences for all that attend the National Basketball Championships.
As you know there have been dramatic changes in homeschooling in the 21 years the National Tournament has existed. Additionally, if you have been involved with HomeSchool for any length of time (more than a day) you know there is no shortage in opinions on the right way to do things. We understand that if any other group ran Nationals they would certainly not do it exactly the way we do it. However, our goal and has been to merge the past and the present in a way that creates the best experience for the kids.
One of things we have tried to do is maintain the spirit of the tournament from the early years while adjusting to currents HomeSchooling standards we do this through what we call “Hardship Exemptions”. Simply put it is case where a player doesn’t meet the letter of the law but we believe they meet the spirit of the law.
With the above in mind let’s look at how this plays into the 2012 Championships:
Definitions
Old School Division – this division is designed for teams where any team can play including those that have a Hardship Exemption.
New School Division – this is limited for teams with no Hardship Exemptions.
Small School – New this year with the following guidelines:
