Tim will be hosting these clinics in a gym atmosphere and will use live action demonstration with players, coaches, etc. throughout the clinic with a goal of sharing 7 basic principles that he used whether I was coaching 10u or 18u.
#1 – The team who wins 95% of time does this one thing… and how to help your team be the one that does it. Found true in 100% of the 1100 games coached by Tim. (In case you are calculating he coached at least 2 teams every year)
#2 – Attacking Zone Defense
#3 – Breaking Zone Pressure
#4 – The Key to Effective Zone Defense – Man Principles
#5 – Defensive Toughness Wins Championships
#6 – Winning Strategy of Playing “opposite”
#7 – Game Effective Offensive Sets for getting easy buckets against man defense
Bonus Tip – Your Most Important Player – which player on your team deserves the most attention and focus whether they are your son or daughter or not.”
Who is welcome:
* Coaches and Assistant Coaches – all age groups
* High School players who think they may want to coach in the future
* Parents who think they may end up coaching in the future
This clinic should be a lot of fun and I personally believe that teams will win games this year because of the 7 principles above.
When I asked Tim to share his heart and the principles (above) he plans to cover in the upcoming coaches clinics he shared.
“I had the privilege of coaching HomeSchool Basketball in Oklahoma City for 16 years.
In my first year of coaching Junior High Basketball I went to watch our varsity basketball team play a game, our team was winning by 10 points mid 3rd quarter when the opposing team put on a full court press. After 2 positions, it was clear that we had no effective press break strategy. It was so bad I had to leave the gym and I heard the next day we lost by 20. I got a call from the varsity coach whose son played on the Junior High team, he told me they drew that same team 1st round of a tournament the next week and asked if I could teach the “triple stack press break”, he told me I could have the whole practice if I needed it. I said I would be glad to and 10 minutes would be enough time. They beat that team in the tournament by 25 points the next week.
There are a lot pressures that come with coaching homeschool basketball…
* Preparing your team to compete with public school talent and athleticism
* Peaking for Nationals
* Developing players to play in college
* Creating a team first mentality that helps players be effective teammates as well as prepare them for life
* Keeping parents and players happy with playing time
This free coaches clinic comes from Tim’s heart to help continue to see HomeSchool Basketball played at the highest level.
